squeaking carpeted floors

If you have carpeted floors then you must have encountered the problem of squeaking carpeted floors quite often. The crackling sounds keep coming as you move on the floor. These sounds have so much to say. Apparently these sounds are bothering but in fact they are calling your attention regarding some problem that might be in need of timber floorboard repair.

The four main reasons behind these squeaking sounds include:

  1. Faulty subfloors

One of the most quoted reason behind the squeaking and crackling floors is the subfloor. The subfloors are made out of wooden versions like the plywood, boards and wood planks. It is a floor that rests on the joists designated for holding the plywood and other kinds of sheeting.  In case the jolts at the top are neither flat nor leveled then the subfloors will not complete support either. After it is nailed down the subflooring becomes uneven. After some time the part of the floor that that is AL reading sucking down will start reverting back to a certain level of stability. As an aftermath a gap creates and nails start leaving their position. If you are walking on this floor this certain area will move downwards and will come back creating a flap like movement which then exhibits a squeaking sound.

The other reason related to the subfloors is that as the floor joist cracks the nails become loose too that ultimately bothers you with the squeaking sound. Unnecessary space between the joists is another reason for the sounds from the floor.

  1. Environmental variations

The environmental factors affect the wooden floors to a greater extent. Humidity, extreme temperatures and the varying weather conditions can together be a huge problem. The change in the humidity levels can cause the wooden planks to shrink. As an aftermath it creates a gap between the boards. The gap then leads to the creaking sounds.

You might need timber floorboard repair at the onset of the winters and the summers. Hardwood floors reduce in size when it is winter and they expand when it is extremely hot. This sudden expansion and reduction in the size of the woods can give the squeaking sounds. The glued floors also face similar changes that ultimately lead to the loose nails or gaps.

  1. Poor installation

Are you experiencing squeaking carpeted floors? Check their installation. Poor installation might lead to such sounds. If you did not hire the right flooring company at the time of installation then you would definitely face such issues due to lack of expertise and efficiency. If they miss to add the bead of glue while attaching the floor and the subfloor it can cause a problem in the later days.  Nailing a floor is an art in itself.  How well the floors are nailed and the level is maintained is very important to prevent the squeaking sounds coming from the floor.

  1. The movement issues

Due to the soil related problems the homes often experience shifts and moves. This is due to the various soil related movements. The different kinds of slabs face different kinds of challenges. In the concrete slabs if the foundation moves then there can be excessive or limited movements in the floors and subfloors that would lead to the sounds.

If the post tension slabs are not installed properly then you may experience the flooring sound issues.
